Anima / Darkroom
Between darkness and incandescent light, the power of the gesture springs forth. Galvanizing and liberating.
Raw energy. Jerky movements that look like a fight. Choreographer Lucy M. May meets the explosive force of 7Starr to present krump, a street dance born in the effervescence of the 2000s, within the context of a black box theatre. We dive into it like a volcano: between darkness and incandescent light, the power and gesture gushes out into the space. Galvanizing and liberating.
A pioneer and magnetic emblem of krump, co-choreographer 7Starr stretches time and slides from one figure to another in a dance of pure expression. With a tense, grimacing body, he engages in dialogue with all the different facets of a shared human existence. A call for witnesses before a complicit audience — a quest for reciprocity. The need to be seen and heard. A real space of affirmation, the theatre becomes a dark room, revealing and fixing the chameleon-like presence of the dancer. An alchemy that leaves its mark.
