TOQAQ MECIMI PUWIHT / Delphine rêve toujours
Without the beating drum, words do not exist.
Delphine is a young Wolastoqey girl, dreamy and determined. Since her father lost the drum of his deceased muhsums, Delphone has been determined to find it at all costs. One autumn day, as the wind picks up, Delphine is transported to the world of the forest spirits, where she meets the mischievous porcupine, the opera-singing owl, and Kiwahq, the terrible beast with a heart of ice! Will she be able to overcome the challenges of the forest to find her drum?
With his play TOQAQ MECIMI PUWHIT / Delphine Is Still Dreaming, Wolastoquey playwright Davie Jenniss addresses themes of transmission and identity and makes the language of his ancestor resonate and reappropriate. This bilingual show in French and Wolastoquet is performed by native and non-native artists.
Ondinnok and La Vieille 17 are honoured to be able to create in Odawa and Tio’Ta:ke, magnificent territories where the Algonquin Anishinabe and Kanien’kehà:ka peoples have walked, dreamed, and lived for millenia. Migwetch! Nià:wen! Thank you!
