La Nouvelle Scène

Gilles Desjardins

Confronted with unspeakable acts he is accused of committing, a young boy attempts to justify his actions to a social worker. The boy tries to avoid the subject, dodges questions, and bluffs, but little by little, he also reveals what really happened. Like in a bullfight, he fights for his survival in a situation over which he has no control.
This teenager is the one who is attentive in class one day and causes trouble in class the next; the one who is unremarkable or has a story that he refuses to tell; the one who puts up a facade of defiance and refuses to reveal any vulnerability, for fear of losing his bearings and, above all, the respect of those around him.
In raw language, but also imbued with humor, affection, and light, Le Taureau takes a look at a teenager's unwavering loyalty to his mother.
Written by Marc-André Charette, artist-in-residence for the 23/24 season at Théâtre Catapulte, and composed by a team of artists based entirely in Ottawa/Gatineau, this poignant work with its enigmatic plot stood out and was selected to participate in the Rencontre Théâtre Ados2025 in Laval.
