This show is non-verbal making it accessible to all audiences regardless of their language, including those who do not speak French.
Wearing a business suit as if it were another skin, de Sagazan smears wet clay and pigment across his head and torso. A mask appears; then another; then another—each one trembling between beauty and dread. The body becomes a living canvas; time becomes material. What begins as a painter’s “failed” attempt to bring life to matter erupts into a raw meditation on identity: how we construct, conceal, and shed our selves in order to feel, to see, to survive. Critics have called Transfiguration unforgettable and terrifying, yet it is also achingly tender—a work where vulnerability and ferocity meet.
For Ottawa audiences, this is a rare chance to encounter a global cult performance in an intimate setting. Come witness a metamorphosis from human to animal to something in-between; a rite that scrapes at the borders of theatre, dance, and visual art. Presented in association with Théâtre du Trillium × SAW at La Nouvelle Scène (Oct 9–10, 2025).
Recommended for mature audiences.
