About
Who are we?
La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins (LNSGD) is Ottawa’s centre for francophone theatre, located at 333 King Edward Avenue.
The performing arts centre presents a varied roster of theatre from its four resident Ottawa-based companies (Théâtre du Trillium, Théâtre de la Vieille, Vox Théâtre, and Théâtre Catapulte), as well as a number of interdisciplinary shows (theatre, music, dance, and other live performance) from other companies in the Ottawa and Gatineau region, from across the country, and even internationally. The theatre has two studios that can accommodate 173 and 80 spectators respectively, a small rehearsal studio, a bar/terrace that can accommodate over 200 people for special events, and an interior courtyard.
La Nouvelle Scène is, first and foremost, a francophone gathering place, a space for nourishing the mind and quenching the body through live performance and festivity.
La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins is an essential space for creation and discovery for the Francophonie in all its diversity.
LNSGD in important dates
Following a concerted effort, carried out for over a decade by the four founding and resident companies, and supported by the entire Canadian Francophone community, LNS opened its doors. In a building purchased from the National Arts Centre and renovated from top to bottom, the original LNS marked a first-ever professional theatre centre created by and for Ottawa’s francophone community.
First season.
Campaign to rebuild the space at 333 King Edward Avenue begins.
Demolition and reconstruction work begins!
Artists return to LNSGD (while still under construction!).
2016: La Nouvelle Scène becomes La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins, following a generous donation to the major fundraising campaign.
